MESSAGE SUMMARY:

During this week’s Wednesday evening service, Rev. Beci Rohkohl continued our “Metaphysical Fairy Tale Fun” series by examining the story of HANSEL AND GRETEL, and showing how this fairy tale represents the soul’s journey from lack and fear back to an awareness of the Divine within.

There are three key lessons we can draw from the story.

1) Lack is a state of consciousness, not a spiritual reality. The parents’ focus on scarcity and “not having enough” causes them to make decisions based on fear rather than faith. Unity teaches that we live in an abundant universe and must choose to focus on truth rather than appearances. When we shift our attention from what seems to be missing to the good that is already present, we open ourselves to greater possibilities, guidance and supply.

2) Fear can trap us in error thinking. Like the children drawn to the candy house, we are often tempted by what appears to solve our problems but ultimately becomes a trap, keeping us captive to anxiety, desperation and illusion. Fear is not overcome by fighting it; it is dissolved through truth, faith and love. Gretel’s courage and love for her brother demonstrate how love can empower us to move beyond fear and reclaim our freedom.

3) It is not enough to know spiritual truth—we must live it. The children’s return home symbolizes returning to our true spiritual nature and recognizing that everything we need is already within us. Their journey reminds us that spiritual growth comes not merely from understanding Truth, but from putting it into practice. The real treasure is not the jewels they bring home, but the wisdom, faith and self-awareness they gain—and apply—along the way.
