MESSAGE SUMMARY:
During this service, Rev. Richard Maraj began a new series inspired by the Eric Butterworth book, “In the Flow of Life.”
All life flows from divine Source, and we live, move and have our very being in that endless goodness. Life is not meant to be a struggle; rather, divine love, peace, joy, wisdom—and all that is good—are constantly flowing within us and in our favor. Our spiritual work is to turn toward that Presence within, open ourselves to its flow, and release whatever blocks its expression in our lives.
Two habits can close us off from the divine flow:
- Looking outside ourselves. Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is within you,” and Scripture repeatedly reminds us of the Power within us. Yet we often let external appearances and circumstances determine our happiness and sense of security. Turning within reminds us that we have spiritual resources greater than any challenge we face.
- Resisting life instead of accepting it. Resentment, complaining and wishing things were different drain our energy and deepen our suffering. Accepting life doesn’t mean approving of everything that happens; it means making peace with what is so we can recognize the lessons, blessings and new possibilities that each experience brings.
We open ourselves to that flow through three spiritual practices:
- Building our prayer consciousness. In the Psalms it is written, “Be still and know that I am God.” Daily prayer and meditation quiet our minds and deepen our connection with Spirit. As we joyfully open to that Presence, peace, wisdom and creativity emerge—and we become greater channels for love and good.
- Trusting. Proverbs counsels us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding.” Even when we cannot see the way forward, we can trust that we are supported and that wisdom and possibilities exist beyond what we presently know.
- Asking, listening and acting. Jesus said, “Ask and you shall receive.” Asking is a powerful practice clarifies the good we seek and opens us to the wisdom of Spirit. We should ask for guidance, listen for our next step, and then act on the wisdom we receive. By putting spiritual insight into practice, we circulate good and participate more fully in the flow of life.
