SUMMARY OF MESSAGE:

During this week’s Wednesday evening’s service, Rev. Stacy Macris Ros reminded us that unity and peace are not achieved by convincing others we’re right, but by becoming people who intentionally build bridges instead of walls.

Rev. Stacy shared several ways we can become peacemakers in the world:

Set the intention to find common ground. Unity begins with the decision to be a bridge of understanding rather than another source of division. Each day, we can choose to show up as peacemakers, especially when faced with disagreement or conflict.

Stay spiritually centered through prayer and meditation. Regular prayer, meditation and affirmative prayer are spiritual “maintenance” that fill us with peace before challenges arise. These practices ground us in our divine nature, making us less likely to react from fear or anger.

Listen to understand, not to “win.” Building unity requires genuine listening, curiosity and humility. Ask questions such as: “Is there information I’m missing?” “Why is this important to them?” and “What if I’m wrong?” These questions open the door to compassion rather than defensiveness.

Choose a heart of peace instead of a heart at war. Even when we are “right,” we can still be wrong if our attitude is combative. Peace begins by softening our own hearts rather than waiting for someone else to change.

See others through spiritual eyes. Every person is an expression of the Divine. When we remember our shared humanity and divinity, we move beyond labels and disagreements to recognize our essential oneness.

Live Unity’s Five Principles. We build bridges by applying Unity’s Five Principles to every relationship and situation: remember God is always present, recognize the Divine in everyone, choose peaceful thoughts, maintain a regular prayer and meditation practice and put these truths into action every day. Spiritual growth is measured not by what we know, but by how faithfully we live what we know.
