This Orientation and the subsequent training program is required for all those who ultimately do decide to take this next step in their spiritual development. \nOur Prayer Chaplains are invaluable in helping to meet the pastoral care needs of our spiritual family. We invite you to prayerfully consider stepping into this powerful area of service for our ministry! Completing Prayer Chaplain training and serving as a Prayer Chaplain is transformative soul work. It is a unique service that differs from many of our other volunteer opportunities in terms of the level of commitment and responsibilities required\, and is one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. Many of our Prayer Chaplains report that they stepped in to serve others\, but found that being a Prayer Chaplain blessed and benefitted themselves most of all! It is a role that will help you discover your greatness and the greatness of others … and we will be here to love and support you as you take this next step on your spiritual journey. \nPlease note that you must be a member to serve as a Prayer Chaplain. \nWhat is the role of a Prayer Chaplain?\nThe role of our Prayer Chaplains is\, quite simply\, to pray. Chaplains are not counselors or advice-givers. DESCRIPTION:May 4 is our “Commitment Sunday” for our building fund campaign. That is when each of us will pledge our personal three-year commitment to financially support building a new Fellowship and Welcoming Center for our ministry. \nAs you think about your own financial commitment to this campaign\, we invite you into a process of prayer and discernment\, asking how Spirit is calling you to be a channel for helping us fulfill this fellowship vision. \nStep 1: REFLECTION. In a spirit of gratitude\, reflect on what this ministry means to you. Read through the brochure to understand all the reasons we are doing this campaign\, and how this fellowship center might positively impact you\, your loved ones and generations to come. To access the information on our website\, scan the QR code at the right. \nStep 2: VISUALIZATION. During this process — and until that building is up and finished — I ask that everyone spend time visualizing the fulfillment of this project\, and giving thanks for the fact that we are coming together as a community to put our principles of manifestation into practice. \nStep 3: PRAYERFUL DISCERNMENT. Take this decision into your prayer time to discern what commitment Spirit is guiding you to make. We are asking everyone to contribute to this campaign\, and to consider pledging 3% of their income over the next three years. But how much you give is a personal decision that depends on your own life situation and guidance. It may be higher than that; it may be a bit lower. Every gift\, regardless of size\, will be an important contribution to the campaign. \nStep 4: COMMITMENT. Fill out the pledge card with the amount you plan to give over the next three years and either mail it back to the church or drop it into the collection basket on or before Commitment Sunday\, May 4. (If you haven’t received a packet with a pledge card\, you can pick one up at our Reception Desk or at the Campaign Table in the Courtyard on Sunday mornings.) \nThank you so much in advance for your generosity. To help bring that vision to life\, we will also share our initial conceptual photos of the new building. \nThis new space will help increase opportunities for congregants to chat\, visit\, connect\, create new friends and enjoy a greater feeling of community before and after services. We will also be able to use the space during the week for classes\, meetings and other activities. \nWe want all of our congregants to be fully informed about our plans for the new building and building fund campaign. DESCRIPTION:Learn to Save a Life with CPR\, the Heimlich\, and an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)\nWhen someone suffers from cardiac arrest\, quick action by bystanders with CPR knowledge can increase the survival rate of the victim by 80%. Sadly\, national statistics show that only 15-30% of cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR\, primarily because people aren’t trained to provide it. \nThat’s why we’re bringing in Lori Stauffer from the Scottsdale Fire Department to teach us this life-saving skill! CPR is EASY to learn\, and mouth-to-mouth is no longer required; you’ll learn the hands-only technique. In addition\, you’ll learn how to do the Heimlich for choking victims; how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED); and what to do in case of bleeding emergencies. \nThis is not an official certification class\, but participants will receive a certificate of attendance. \nWill you be ready when a family member\, friend\, elderly parent or co-worker needs help? DESCRIPTION:With all the devastating events that have taken place recently (plane crashes\, fires\, school shootings\, etc.)\, we wanted to open a space where congregants could release their feelings in a safe and prayerful space. \nRev. Stacy Macris Ros will facilitate this “Heart Share” circle\, and Revs. Jimmie Scott and Sandy Hopper will also be present to pray and hold sacred space. During the circle\, people can speak uninterrupted from their heart. The circle will open and close with prayer and will have clear guidelines for participating (examples: no advice given or interruptions or follow-up outside of the circle\, etc). \nPlease join us for this sacred\, cleansing time of release!
