Richard Maraj as we visit Unity congregants Alan and Mary Travis’ personal collection of more than 20 vintage vehicles including: bicycles\, motorcycles\, and automobiles dating from 1882 to 1915. (Fun fact: they are all still drivable!) There are also automobilia\, historic racing trophies and a phonograph that plays a “talking” wax cylinder. You can also see the shop where the vehicles are restored! \nDoors open at 6:30 p.m. (not before!); presentation about the history and evolution of transportation\, based on the collection\, begins promptly at 7 p.m. A Q&A session will follow the presentation at 8:15 p.m. Doors close at 9 p.m. \nCapacity is limited to 45 people\, so reservations are mandatory.

Amanda Sue Briggs — one of our congregants — with one of her favorite outreach activities: packing food boxes for the charity organization\, Feed My Starving Children. To help facilitate this event\, Unity of Phoenix is directing a portion of its monthly tithe ($2\,000) to cover 40 volunteer spots. \nBecause we have only 40 spots available\, you MUST RSVP to hold a spot. \nWe’ll be hand-packing rice\, soy\, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags which are then sealed\, boxed\, placed on pallets and shipped to incredible partners who distribute the food to children who need it around the world. \nThrough volunteering at FMSC\, you’ll get the chance to impact hundreds of kids in just two hours\, and experience what it’s like to make a tangible difference in the world. This Orientation and the subsequent training program is required for all those who ultimately do decide to take this next step in their spiritual development. \nOur Prayer Chaplains are invaluable in helping to meet the pastoral care needs of our spiritual family. We invite you to prayerfully consider stepping into this powerful area of service for our ministry! Completing Prayer Chaplain training and serving as a Prayer Chaplain is transformative soul work. It is a unique service that differs from many of our other volunteer opportunities in terms of the level of commitment and responsibilities required\, and is one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. Many of our Prayer Chaplains report that they stepped in to serve others\, but found that being a Prayer Chaplain blessed and benefitted themselves most of all! It is a role that will help you discover your greatness and the greatness of others … and we will be here to love and support you as you take this next step on your spiritual journey. \nPlease note that you must be a member to serve as a Prayer Chaplain. \nWhat is the role of a Prayer Chaplain?\nThe role of our Prayer Chaplains is\, quite simply\, to pray. Seasoned theatre aficionados and newcomers alike will find themselves doubled over at the astute observations and biting humor\, affectionately poking fun at the excesses and conventions of the art form we love. \nBeyond just a fast-paced laugh fest\, this vaudeville-esque experience offers thoughtful social commentary set to side-splitting musical parodies\, reminding us that even amidst the grandeur of the theatre’s most revered works\, there’s room for self-deprecating levity and a wink at our own theatrical extravagances. \nNote: Sorry! We couldn’t snag a matinee show because those performances were already mostly sold out\, causing ticket prices to be much higher. \nThese tickets are located in Rows G and H at the back of the Hardes Theatre. As You Wish will provide expert assistance and anything else you need to let your inner artist out – including paints\, palettes\, brushes\, lettering tools\, tape\, pencils\, tracing materials\, vinyl stickers\, stamps\, sponges\, books of inspiration\, and anything else you need to let your inner artist out! \nThe $45 ticket covers the studio painting fee; a piece of pottery you select to paint (up to $30); and tip for the studio teachers. \nIf you’d like to join Rev. Stacy for dinner before the event\, plan to join her at 5pm at Zupa’s\, a restaurant that offers a variety of soups\, salads and sandwiches (located very near the As You Wish center in the Desert Ridge marketplace).
