DESCRIPTION:Learn to Save a Life with CPR\, the Heimlich\, and an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)\nRSVP Deadline: Sunday\, February 22\nWhen someone suffers from cardiac arrest\, quick action by bystanders with CPR knowledge can increase the survival rate of the victim by 80%. Sadly\, national statistics show that only 15-30% of cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR\, primarily because people aren’t trained to provide it. \nThat’s why we’re bringing in the Scottsdale Fire Department to teach us this life-saving skill! CPR is EASY to learn\, and mouth-to-mouth is no longer required; you’ll learn the hands-only technique. In addition\, you’ll learn how to do the Heimlich for choking victims; how to use an automatic external defibrillator (AED); and what to do in case of bleeding emergencies. Piestewa Peak Dr.\, Phoenix\, AZ 85016 (Use “Piestewa Nature Trail” in Apple Maps & “7200 Piestewa Peak Dr.” in Google Maps.) \nFrom Highway 51\, take the Glendale Ave. exit heading east. (This road soon becomes E Lincoln drive at the first bend to the right.)  Proceed a total of 0.7 miles and turn left onto E. Piestewa Peak Rd. Follow this road past the park entrance to the furthest parking area. \nMeeting Location: The ramadas located just off the parking area. \nDescription: This is a wonderful\, moderately challenging loop hike (yes\, with a bit of huffing and puffing). The landscape is gorgeous\, making you almost forget how close to civilization you are. The terrain is rocky in some sections\, and it is advised to wear sturdy shoes. This trail is multi-use and used by hikers\, trail runners\, and mountain bikers. \nDogs:  Dogs on a leash are welcome.

SUMMARY:Authentic Communication and Authentic Relationships
DESCRIPTION:This class meets on six consecutive Sundays: Jan. 11-Feb. 15\, 12:30-2:30 p.m.\nThe ticket fee of $75 covers all six sessions\nThe purpose of this course is to practice relating honestly\, beginning with yourself. We’ll start with simple activities that help you connect with your feelings\, needs\, and desires\, and express them in an environment of empathy\, care\, and attentive listening that fosters trust. \nBy honoring our feelings and expressing them openly we feel content with that part of ourselves that previously learned to withhold and therefore withdraw from relationships. When our relationships become authentic\, we create a genuine\, secure connection that is valued. Authentic relationships radiate confidence and earn respect and trust. \nWe’ll explore how using simple communication techniques strengthens our bond and connection with ourselves\, first\, and then naturally extends to others. We’ll also practice making simple\, clear\, concise\, and direct requests—and then letting go of the outcome. In doing so\, we will be building unity with one another. \nAlthough we are not using an assigned book\, we will draw from a variety of resources\, including Dr. Gail Brenner\, Drs. Gay and Katie Hendricks\, Dr. David Viscott\, Terry Real and Dr. Gabor Maté.
