SUMMARY:Hiking Group Event: Moonlight Hike/Walk at Papago Park
DESCRIPTION:MOONLIGHT (FLOWER MOON) HIKE/WALK\, May 1st at Papago Park in Phoenix. \nWe will meet at Evelyn Hallman Park at 5:45 p.m. on Friday\, May 1st.  PLEASE arrive 15 minutes early.  From the park\, we’ll hike/walk around the ponds and up to Hunt’s Tomb (about 3 miles total) where there are 360 degree views of the city so we should be able to see the sunset and full moon from the same location and then return to the parking lot afterward.  The moon is supposed to peak earlier in the day.  The surface is paved and some of it is dirt/gravel so wear appropriate footwear.   IT IS ALL EASY!  A few easy inclines.  It’s recommended to bring a flashlight or headlamp\, although when the moon is full and shining brightly\, it is seldom needed.  Better to be safe with some light support.  Also\, it is still necessary to bring water. \nEvelyn Hallman’s parking lot address is 250 E Marigold Lane\, Tempe 85281.  We will meet at the pinkish gates. \nYOU MUST RSVP at least the day before.  If no hikers RSVP\, the hike will be cancelled\, so please make sure to RSVP either via email or text.  (RSVP to Adrian Reznik\, 602.904.1425 or arezzy123@gmail.com). If you text\, please identify yourself so Adrian knows who is texting and why.  ADRIAN WILL REPLY that your RSVP was received\, so if you don’t receive a confirmation\, try again. \nHike Leader Adrian Reznik will be wearing green hiking pants for easy identification.  Meet by the pinkish gates.

Go .2 miles and turn left on 11th Ave. (“11 Av” sign on telephone pole).  Go south .1 mile.  Go absolutely straight instead of following the slight left of the black top; turn right onto the dirt road (“26008” sign on the fence).  That road dead ends at Laurie and Frank’s house. \nHike Description: The Great Horned Owl trail makes a big loop around Union Peak. The first part of the loop has a few stretches that are pretty steep and fairly rocky as it climbs along the north side of the peak. \n(Optional – TBD when we get to this point – After reaching the Union Peak Trail (UP) – a nice 1/2 mile side trip with several steep switchbacks to the summit. You’re rewarded with excellent views of Deer Valley and in all directions. There is also a book to sign at the summit).  From the Union Peak trail\, the trail drops a couple of hundred feet and loops around the southside of Union Peak. Views of the neighborhoods to the south and east are seen as the trail moderates and winds back and forth around the peak. Don’t be fooled however\, it still has lots of ups and downs through numerous washes as you round the southwest side of Union Peak. \nDogs: Welcome on a leash
